Entrepreneurial Success is not just about talent.

So don’t be afraid to try new things, to trust again, to put yourself out there and take a risk. It’s all part of being a leader. It’s the fabric of entrepreneurial success.

The more I study modern day business and marketing, the more I realize that EVERYTHING is a risk. You can follow a proven plan, but its implementation can be different since there are many variables at play.

  • The ad copy, its title, the keywords, the offer, the call to action.
  • The location you place your ad.
  • The people you targeted, warm, cold, interested, pre-disposed.
  • The relationship with your prospects, do they know you, like you, trust you.

One marketer can make the exact same offer of another marketer and get a totally different result – why?

Entrepreneurial success depends on all of the above being in alignment. And the only way to ‘see’ the patterns that will work for your own business is through constant testing, tweaking, refining, and then building out the ads that are working with a particular target audience or marketing outlet.

So even at the most basic level of marketing, to achieve entrepreneurial success you have to be prepared to take a risk – or at least appreciate that marketing is about experimenting – until you get your own formula kicking in. Then you can rinse and repeat in every aspect of your business.

It Starts with Why you do what you do, then you move to the What and the How.

Business mentoring for personal development is a key area. Developing an entrepreneurial mindset doesn’t happen overnight. It is a gradual process, supported by good mentorship and daily practice. Business planning with a mentor can allow the wisdom of someone more experienced to guide you. Likewise, your marketing strategies can be planned and discussed with a mentor to bounce ideas around and take advice on what is likely to work best in your context based on your own skills set.

Learning and Learning to Adapt

The location and process of learning may be varied, and mentoring for personal development is a key element. The knowledge and skills you develop or acquire may take many forms: Propositional, procedural, personal and practice-centred, context-related and so on. We can learn a lot from student learning literature (pedagogy) as well as studies on organisational learning and leadership.

What’s important is this. The world around us is changing all the time and we must learn how to adapt.

This is no more true than in the internet marketing arena. Some of the future trends (like Facebook with approaching one billion users worldwide) can be predicted, but much is unknown.

While formal training and following the ‘leaders’ in this industry should definitely form a part of your personal development and skills plan, the only way you can carve out a unique angle for yourself is to horizon scan is first to follow, then learn to lead.

You’ll enjoy the journey a heck of a lot more!!!

It takes a bit of mental retraining and feels weird at first, but it becomes a daily habit.

Visualise what your internet business success looks like for you, for your income, for your daily routine, for your family, for your leisure time.

Scene it out in great detail, write it down and enjoy spending time within that space.

You may enjoy the challenges along the way a bit more, because you just see it as part of the process to get where you want to be

I recently listened to some excellent training from Simon Sinek, author of the book “Start with Why”. Simon really resonates with our community of online entrepreneurs.

I must say I was impressed with his train of thoughts. Here’s why …

Simon talks about the “biology” behind people’s behaviour when it comes to buying a product or joining something. Marketing for business success starts with why – not what or how. It comes from the heart, ruled by the emotional limbic part of the human brain that listens – not the analytic rationalising neocortex.

As a biologist/medic by educational background and a professional personal development coach … this is very interesting insight when it comes to marketing. It’s something everyone should be basing their strategies upon.

Top successful businesses are led by people who inspire you, by their ‘why’, their passion. You “buy into it” and stay loyal to that company, even regardless of inconvenience (cheaper product, easier to get hold of and so on).

I totally sign up to the psychology/biology of heart-to-heart marketing for business success. This is what makes it a passion. Passion comes from knowing your “why”. When you share your reasons for doing what you do, in the way you do it -also know as “mystory marketing”, you connect with other people at a deeper level.

If their ‘why’ resonate with your why, you’re on the same page – and someone would rather do business with YOU than with someone else, even if you’re in a different country!

Top network marketing companies will teach you a home business model to make money online and using traditional run ‘rah rah’ events. Whatever the methods, though, most of them will need to keep their reps motivated and play mind games.

They’ll get you to create vision boards, to see your success, chant affirmations to rid yourself of negative self-talk – all in the name of developing the right mindset to help you see life at the top. You know the kind  … and for the main, they talk about goal setting and visualisation.

While there’s some sense in developing your personal ‘brand’ and standing up as a leader – authenticity is essential if you’re trying to make money online.

Well … this IS the millionaire stuff!

The right mindset is what is behind every entrepreneur who manages to make money online.

Positive, determined, visualises success and never gives up.

If you couple that with a solid plan -a set of action steps that really work – tried and tested many times over… you’re on the right track.

Let me illustrate with a real example:

I was talking to a potential new student of mine today who had submitted her application to partner with me in the WMI marketing system and business opportunity. She talked about her past failures in network marketing and how she was struggling with learning affiliate marketing.

We had a conversation about the way the WMI lead system of sales funnels and automation works, how you don’t have to call leads but attract people to you and the system does all the selling and explaining and filters out the people who aren’t that serious.

Of course, that’s the only way to market these days on the internet to make money online.

But we also talked a lot about overcoming fear of failure and the importance of a person’s mindset in their ultimate success as an entrepreneur (whether as a network marketer or affiliate marketer, makes no difference).

You see, she saw herself as ‘unworthy’ compared to what she called “high flying sales executives”. And she asked me … “Why would anyone want work with me? Isn’t it only those “professionals” who are successful at this stuff?

Well, we talked this through and I don’t know if I connected with her or not, I hope so. I hope she “got it” – that the light bulb flicked on in terms of what is takes to be successful as an entrepreneur.

It certainly is about skills and about systems, but if you don’t get the mindset right, you will quickly run out of faith or energy, whichever comes first.

There were SO many things that leapt out at me about that discussion that I felt driven to share some ‘aha’ moments with my blog readers … so here goes.

Hope the light bulb goes on for you too.

  • Work as hard (or harder) on yourself than you do on your business. Personal development is not fluffy, it’s critical for short term success and longer term growth.
  • When you tell yourself things are going too slow … understand that if you’re building a skyscraper (your future income goals), solid foundations are critical for long term stability.
  • With solid foundations, the money flows and the building (your income) can keep growing. The deeper the piles underground, the taller the building on top.
  • Be aware of the hidden voice in your subconscious that drives your decisions – stop listening to your doubts and doubting your beliefs.
  • Visualise your success every day in minute detail, play out how a typical day looks and feels if you had the income you desire.
  • Only when you really can ‘see’ yourself in a position of achieving your goals can you truly work towards them and achieve them in reality. This takes a bit of practice.
  • Work consistently and persistently, taking action every day that takes you closer to your goals – income producing activity in this game is driving traffic and following up with people, and later coaching others to success.

Finally … a mantra for how to make money online:
