The very best home business strategies are simple principles and habits.

First rule: doing work that matters.

Personally, I have tens of mentors that help me with my business. I recently received an email from one of them, Seth Godin, which resonated very closely with my own work ethic, so much so that I wanted to share it with you.

As a new business owner, getting into highly productive habits can be challenging. There seems an endless list of things to do, maybe some technical hurdles, staring at your computer wondering what to do next, not to mention a bunch of existing commitments to juggle around your business activities.

So one of the best home business strategies really is to re-train your daily habits – to get consistent and hold yourself accountable.

You need to develop laser focus. You need to be prepared to give some things up for the time being – like TV, hobbies, family members who are negative about what you are doing. You need to get into hyper-productivity, as discussed in my post Extreme Tactics for Self-Organization and Increased Productivity to Increase Home Business Income.

Let me clarify: it’s not purely about working harder, it’s about working SMARTER.

I’m sure you’ve heard that old adage. And it’s no more true than in business, particularly when YOU are your own boss and it’s about developing YOUR best home business strategies.

I’m perhaps get it right only 70% of the time – some days worse than that! But I review, take stock, give myself a kick and get back into focus, write down my goals, create my action plan, and set to with fresh vigour and get back that self accountability.

It’s simply part of my personal development time, looking for new ways to become more and more productive and have less and less ‘waste’ in my daily routine. I try to manage my habits, eliminate my distractions.

The are the best home business strategies behind my own success. It has nothing specifically to do with particualr systems or techniques, it’s about leveraging your time. Undoubtedly, the hyper productive habits I am developing are why I get so much done.

And you know, that is of the utmost significance in terms of income producing activity – what you earn!!!

Here’s what Seth had to say on the matter, that prompted me to share my own thoughts here:

Art is hard. Selling is hard. Writing is hard. Making a difference is hard.

When you’re doing hard work, getting rejected, failing, working it out–this is a dumb time to make a situational decision about whether it’s time for a nap or a day off or a coffee break.

Zig [Ziglar] taught me this twenty years ago. Make your schedule before you start. Don’t allow setbacks or blocks or anxiety to push you to say, “hey, maybe I should check my email for a while, or you know, I could use a nap.” If you do that, the lizard brain is quickly trained to use that escape hatch again and again.

The first three years of my solo business, when the struggle seemed never ending, I never missed a day, never took a nap. I committed to a weekly plan, ending the day at a certain time and not working on Friday evenings or Sundays. It cuts both ways.

As another mentor of mine, John Jackson, says … “how you show up in life, is how you show up in your business.” Copy the habits of the 3% leaders …  and you will become one of the successes too.

It’s not coincidence, success leaves clues.

In short: One of your best home business strategies is to Stand Up and Show Up.
