Have you ever noticed – I mean REALLY noticed – how positive impact events happen and how you can control when and how often they happen?
Most people only see this as a negative phenomenon and talk themselves into doom and gloom like this:
“I’m down in the dumps and can’t seem to snap out of it.” That sucks.
“Bad things always happen to me.” Hmm.
“Bad things come in threes.” Wow!
Let me give you an example of positive impact events. I first noticed this in a positive sense. I must have been in my late teens, I was out shopping – I always remember this. I was in a bad mood and as I came out of a store, a lady held the door open for me. I muttered ‘thank you’ – cos I was brought up polite – and she answered cheerfully: “You’re welcome”!
Well, the rest of that day, I was cheery. That one positive vibe, that one event changed my outlook completely.
So next time, I decided I’d test out my positive impact events theory to see if I could CONTROL that switch, to create positive impact events MYSELF.
(Oddly enough, just the experience so far and the decision to do this little test meant I had to wait a while until I was in a bad mood again!) But on that occasion, I made the first move. I went out of my way to make a positive gesture to someone else – I think it was a compliment – ‘that colour looks nice on you’ kind of thing.
It was an epiphany. My first lesson in the power of positive mindset and positive action. I FELT GREAT! And so did the girl I complimented.
The lesson in this is that when you’re in a negative spin, and the only way seems down, you have to shake it up. Give the positive chance to shine out.
More on positive impact events in my ezine. I’m on a roll thinking about how these things compound like mercury beads and everything flows towards your most important ideas and goals.
