What do I mean by find your true self?

find your true self

Living in the Moment

Let me explain.

Most of my adult life I have been searching for what it is I’m supposed to do on this planet.

You know the kind of thing that fulfills you when you do it, or even get close to doing something similar to it – without realising what ‘it’ is, because you don’t really find your true self when you’re growing up – if you’re lucky, that comes later.

So much of my study and career was just someone else’s direction. I don’t mean my parents made me study – and I went all the way to PhD and that was my choice. What I mean is that I just kind of followed a programme, like following your nose in front of you, because I didn’t have a clear idea of my own what I wanted to do with my life.

Sad as that all sounds – and it’s a familiar story for a lot of people I know – I did pretty well for myself. I had a brilliant career, and over the years moved from researching stuff to supporting stuff then supporting people and developing people, from professional development to personal coaching. I started to see a a pattern … but still quite hazy.

On a personal level, I’ve also been fortunate. I have several good quality relationships that are standing the test of time, and a soul mate, best friend husband who accepts me for all that I am. I start to find my true self through his eyes sometimes – he probably knows me best of all, my demons, my passions. I also have a lovely family, an amazing teenage son and sweetheart of a daughter (even though she is severely disabled, she brings great joy – hard work but great joy).

About a year ago, I came across ‘Start With Why’, a thought provoking book by Simon Sinek – see a previous blog post on finding your why – that was very enlightening process and took me a step further on my ‘find your true self’ journey. I even heard Simon speak at a marketing event, have a one-to-one chat with him, and of course got my book signed, a real groupie! I think he’s amazing and he inspires me still.

Couple this to what I’ve been coaching and training on for the past two years at least, which is the whole ‘attraction marketing’ and ‘personal branding’ and worlds and concepts are really starting to collide, exciting stuff :-)

So what I’m already excited about with Avant’s Elevate course is the chance to really start to look deep into my own pysche and find my true self. Great timing as I arrive on Saturday at my 47th birthday. I’m discovering some of the things that make me tick, that bring me inner peace, happiness and fulfilment. My goodness, that Elevate comes within 72 days and gets you close to the kind of personal awareness and sense of my ‘calling’ I’ve spent decades trying to unravel, it will be worth ten times its price tag.

Just one Me, Myself & I exercise (a portion of day 4) was been incredibly powerful, if you really focus on exploring who is that person looking back at you. I had a chat with my son today and he’s going to give that exercise a go as well. He was really intrigued by the ‘find your true self’ concept – a good sign. I think he will find the Transform event very enlightening – is he old enough to come with me?

So I invite you to find your true self through personal awareness coaching – click the link for info – it’s powerful and enlightening.
